This new book by Giuliana Buonpadre deals with the popular embroidery technique Punto Antico but presupposes no special knowledge of the technique which makes it a good book for beginners.

Punto Antico is a combination of elements of a variety of techniques: drawn thread embroidery, motifs in satin stitch and bullion, and reticella fillings.

The elements which are later used in the designs are shown in the introduction and explained with clear diagrams.

Then follow designs for several magnificent tablecloths, very accurately embroidered and beautifully illustrated, together with the diagrams necessary for counting threads and working the pieces. The motifs can be put together and altered to form new patterns as you like.

The embroidery is done in shades of one colour on linen with 15/16 threads per cm; only one design (Centrotavola di Gabriella) is embroidered on 11-thread-per-cm linen, which is easier on the eyes.

A very attractive book for embroiderers who wish to start using the Punto Antico technique.
